Extracting Shadows, in progress

Description: This is a work in progress. Pinnacle Peak Reservoir will be built to serve the water needs of the Desert Ridge community in fall 2010. We were selected to create art on the 8-foot tall security wall in front of the reservoir. For this project, we will create shadows patterns of desert plants and trees that seem to fall across the wall, but are in fact embedded into the design of the wall through the use of form liners. By sorting, extracting, editing, and choosing from desert plant shadows, we developed simple, natural graphics to apply to the reservoir wall.  We will soften a extremely long wall with natural imagery in silhouette form, contrasting these patterns with repeated panels of rusted metal for textural variety. The shadow images will be large and visible from the street 50 feet away. The gate will be created with simple panels of rusted metal. (CAD drawing by Michael Alexander)
